Episode 95: Nerds For ELM

Welcome to the middle of the week!

In minute 95, Grandpa Joe continues to rail against all that he thinks is unfair, but Wonka won’t budge. Joe plots his revenge, but Charlie is having none of it, because Charlie is actually a good and decent human being. He provides a light in the darkness that is the world. David thinks that Grandpa Joe is projecting his own feelings about himself onto Wonka. We talk about revenge, and varying ways to think of revenge. We talk about Charlie’s good deed, and the Shakespearean quote that it inspires Willy Wonka to paraphrase. David even gets a little personal talking about his faith.

Also, please tweet at Dairy Queen’s official account, and tell them how much you want a Nerds Blizzard!

Thanks for listening, and we’ll see you back here on Friday!

Episode 76: Everlasting Minute After Dark (Parental Discretion is Advised)

It’s going to be a good Monday.

In minute 76, things get a little…adult. We continue with the lickable wallpaper, and Wonka is not pleased with Veruca when she questions him about Snozzberries. He then leads them into a room with a lot of bubbles, and Grandpa and Charlie make a very bad choice. We discuss the nature of the Snozzberry, and how the word took on a new meaning in the late 70s, thanks to Mr. Roald Dahl. We also talk about artificially flavored banana candies, a couple more literary references, and what would happen if you took candy to Dairy Queen.

Episode 45: Touch On Gene Wilder

We’re finishing out week number 15.

Heidi Bennett is with us one final time, and minute 45 finally introduces us to Mr. Willy Wonka! Unfortunately, he doesn’t do a whole lot except
limp down a carpet. So, we spend most of the episode discussing the career of Gene Wilder. We do briefly criticize Violet for chewing with her mouth open. And we also compare the outfit between the original film, and the tribute version in the Futurama episode referencing the film.

Thanks to Heidi for joining us for a great week of discussion. You can find her in the following places around the internet:
