Bonus Episode: The Leader in Wonkalytics

Welcome back! It’s only been a few short days since we wrapped up our minute by minute discussion of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. However, we were recently made aware of a video by Luke Palmer and Rhino Stew that lays out a theory that the 2013 film Snowpiercer is a direct sequel to our beloved Willy Wonka. We spend some time discussing the ideas that this video puts forth, and maybe even providing more potential for explanation based on the reading that we had about certain characters in this film, over the previous one hundred episodes.

Let us know what you think about the theory, and tweet at Chris Evans to see what he thinks.

Thank you to Luke Palmer for putting this theory out into the world.

Episode 100: Thank You

Welcome to the final regular episode of Everlasting Minute.

In Minute 100, we have the Wonkavator flying, and we get credits and a final fade to black. David goes through the credits, and talks about a recent field trip that he took to see the film in the theater for the first time, and details some time meeting Paris Themmen and Julie Dawn Cole.

Jason and David humbly thank everyone who has been listening as we’ve gone on this journey, and everyone who will find this show in the weeks, months and years to come.

We will be back at some point with more content…maybe sooner than you can possibly imagine.

Episode 99: Happily Ever After

Happy Friday, and welcome to the penultimate episode of Everlasting Minute.

In minute 99, Wonka gives Charlie some very exciting, if unexpected news, and explains what the purpose of the contest was. We discuss the nature of happy endings in general, and this happy ending in particular. David and Jason decide that this may be the happiest ending in film history, and they’re hard pressed to come up with a way to describe the change in circumstance for Charlie and his family. We also discuss the original novel’s outcomes for the other four children.

Thanks for listening, and we’ll see you on Monday for the final episode of Everlasting Minute.

Episode 98: Henry Cavill’s Mustache

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

In minute 98, Charlie, Willy Wonka and Grandpa Joe break through the glass ceiling. Not that glass ceiling, unfortunately. As it breaks through the ceiling, the Wonkavator takes flight, and we get to see a high angle of the town of Nördlingen in Bavaria, Germany, which is standing in for the town that Charlie and Grandpa Joe live in. We also get a composite shot of the Wonkavator flying over the town, which is showing its age. Jason makes an off hand remark which leads to an extensive digression about hamsters, Scrabble and message boards. It doesn’t have anything to do with the movie…just go with it.

Episode 97: Squareways?

It’s Monday, and there’s only 4 episodes left of this here program. I’m getting a little misty.

In minute 97, Willy Wonka finishes explaining what a Wonakvator is. He points out that there are a whole lot of buttons, and that each button has a purpose. Wonka has pushed all of the buttons except one, and he is going to let Charlie have the honors. That button starts the Wonkavator shaking and churning, and causes Charlie to look like he’s going to be sick. The Wonkavator begins to ascend, which is somewhat worrisome. David and Jason use this episode as a springboard for discussion of the history of elevators, and take a look at the Wonkavator’s altimeter…which they have a lot of questions about. Also, David throws some minor shade at Elon Musk.

See you back here on Wednesday.
