Episode 84: Roy Kinnear, You Left Us Too Soon…

Ready for the weekend? Well let us get you there!

In minute 84, Veruca went first, and Mr. Salt goes second. Wonka gives the Salts a “good sporting chance”(?) of not getting burned up in the furnace. David and Jason question that math. David tries to figure out why the onscreen lyrics return for this particular Oompa Loompa song. We also discuss Charlie’s return to his sweet, caring form. We also discuss Roy Kinnear’s dive into the eggdicator chute.

Also, Jason continues to think that Wonka needs sunglasses…

Definitely not…

Episode 83: Touching Wonka’s Tie

Time for a mid-week sweet treat!

In minute 83, Veruca is finishing her song. She meets her end in this minute…you’ll have to listen if you don’t know how. Mr. Salt, of course has a very specific reaction to her end. We discuss the composition and orchestration of the song. We discuss the logistics of knocking a set of boxes over in the same order for continuity’s sake. We also talk about how this set of actors comports themselves when they’re not the focus of the action. We also talk about how one falls through a trap door without hurting or embarrassing themselves.

Episode 81: Spa Day

Happy Friday, everyone!

In minute 81, we’ve got nonsense and relish! Veruca wants a golden goose, and someone finally tells her “no”. This causes Mr. Salt to insult Wonka, and Veruca to start to sing. David does some digging to figure out where Wonka’s little sing song phrase in this minute comes from. We also go into some discussion about the origin and meaning of Easter eggs.

Episode 80: Taxonomical Categories

It’s the middle of the week!

In minute 80, it’s Easter! Well, it’s not, but that’s not going to stop Wonka from trying to get ahead for next year. Grandpa Joe and Charlie are on the ground, and they have caught back up with the rest of the group. Jason and David agree that Mike Teevee is an idiot. Jason doesn’t enjoy Patton Oswalt. David relays a fable. We also talk about geese in the real world, and Jason brings up pelicans. Finally, Willy Wonka doesn’t understand omelettes.

I know what you’re thinking…ugh…another Monday.

But it’s another Monday of Everlasting Minute! In minute 79, Charlie and Grandpa Joe have hit their ceiling. I mean…the ceiling. We find out about the releasing of gas from the stomach through the mouth. We talk about everything from Space Quest III to Uranus. It’s all for the greater good…yarp.

Episode 78: High School Physics

Happy Friday!

In minute 78, Charlie and Grandpa Joe are still flying around. They fancy themselves rockets, birds, and shooting stars. David continues to have a low opinion of Grandpa Joe, and we end up blaming him for the episode getting a little off track. We go on a tangent about centripetal/centrifugal force, and talk about composite shots.

Have a great weekend!

Episode 77: Questionable Physics

It’s your midweek sweet treat!

In minute 77, we’re talking all about Fizzy Lifting Drinks. Grandpa Joe proves that he has no integrity, no sense, and no understanding of physics. David has very strong feelings about Grandpa Joe in this scene, and wastes no time talking about it. Grandpa Joe abuses Charlie’s trust in him…providing a fine example of parenting for Jason. As the title suggests, we also discuss the questionable physics in this scene.

Come back on Friday for the next minute.

Episode 76: Everlasting Minute After Dark (Parental Discretion is Advised)

It’s going to be a good Monday.

In minute 76, things get a little…adult. We continue with the lickable wallpaper, and Wonka is not pleased with Veruca when she questions him about Snozzberries. He then leads them into a room with a lot of bubbles, and Grandpa and Charlie make a very bad choice. We discuss the nature of the Snozzberry, and how the word took on a new meaning in the late 70s, thanks to Mr. Roald Dahl. We also talk about artificially flavored banana candies, a couple more literary references, and what would happen if you took candy to Dairy Queen.

Episode 75: Lickable Wallpaper Lifehack

Happy Friday!

We’re three quarters of the way through the movie. In minute 75, Violet and Mr. Beauregarde take their leave, and we head into a hallway with lickable wallpaper. We talk about the continued uncomfortability of Denise Nickerson’s blueberry costume. We discuss the origin of the literary quote that Willy Wonka dispenses in this minute, and the misunderstandings of childhood. We also see another example where the context of the literary quotes help us understand why it’s being used in this moment. Toward the end of the episode, David brings the episode to a screeching halt. We finish the episode by talking about the logistics of lickable wallpaper.

See you next week!
